Lewes Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Worthing centre-forward Lloyd Dawes for an undisclosed fee. Twenty-one year old Dawes has been a prolific striker around the Sussex Non-League scene, scoring 29 goals in all competitions for The Rebels.
“I’ve managed Lloyd when he was a teenager at Whitehawk and know he has goals in him”, commented Darren Freeman after a hectic Bank Holiday Monday, “Last season he was pivotal to Worthing’s success and I’m sure he will prove to be just as prolific for us next season. I’d also like to thank each and every contributor to the 12th Man Fund as without that contribution we may not have been able to get Lloyd”
In the past three seasons Lloyd has scored over 50 goals in all competitions for Worthing (plus one for Peacehaven and Telscombe) and was being tracked by a number of clubs.
Chairman Stuart Fuller hailed the deal as a great achievement for the club, “Not only have we managed to secure the services of a very exciting young centre-forward but we’ve done so through the funds donated by the fans. This was exactly the type of deal we hoped the 12th Man Fund would enable us to make”
Lloyd joins an exciting young squad built by Darren, ready for the start of Pre-Season Training in just three weeks time.
We are delighted to announce that Claire Capon will be supporting Academy Manager John Donoghue as the Academy Liaison Officer for the Newman Lewes FC Girls Academy.
Claire will liaise between the college, the Academy Manager and Director to ensure that the welfare of the players is being met. At the college, she will be the Academy players’ Form Tutor and will see the players on a daily basis to ensure that they are meeting their school deadlines and balancing their workload alongside their training.
Claire attended Colchester United’s female football academy at Thurstable between 2008-2010, and she has first-hand experience of the demands placed on academy players. Director of Ladies Football, Jacquie Agnew, said: “I am really pleased that Claire is joining the team and, having been through an academy herself, will bring invaluable experience to the girls.”
Students will begin their pre-season with an informal get-together in late June at Lewes FC, and will begin their Academy education at Newman College in September.
For further information on the Academy, contact Victoria Jones, Senior Sixth Form Administrator, on 01273 234332 or email email@example.com. If you’re applying for a place at the College, please specify your interest in the Girls Football Academy from the outset.

The first team squad for next season continues to be strengthened with the news that Stacey Freeman will start the season with The Rooks. As many will know, Stacey ended last season on trial at Crawley Town, a just reward for some strong performances at the heart of the Lewes defence. The Reds weren’t the only club that had their eye on Stacey and he received a number of offers to play at a higher level next season, before agreeing to stay on at The Pan.
“I know that Stacey is my son but I think him and Alex Malins gave us a strong defensive base in the last third of the season and I am delighted that he has agreed to re-join,” Manager Darren Freeman said.“We’ve now retained the spine of the team, so we will go into next season with the same confidence that we had in the last three months of the campaign and which made us very hard to beat.”
In other news, George Landais has stepped up his rehabilitation and although we are unlikely to see him on the pitch before October, his progress after his operation has been encouraging and we all look forward to seeing him back in the red and black before too long.
