The Board of Lewes Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of John Donoghue as the Newman Lewes FC Girls Football Academy Manager.

John is the Club’s Ladies First Team Manager and responsible for the management and coaching of the team in the FA Women’s Premier League. He is a UEFA A-Licence football coach and a highly experienced Academy coach, having previously worked as Head Coach of the Women’s Academy at Worthing College for Brighton and Hove Albion (as well as BHA’s women’s first team coach), and an Academy Manager at Bournemouth and Southampton Football clubs.

The Newman Lewes Academy – a pioneering partnership between Lewes Football Club and Newman College in Hove, launches its first season in September, and students will combine study at the new £5m College complex, and training and competitive matches at Lewes Football Club’s FIFA approved 3G artificial pitch.

John Donoghue said; “I’m really pleased to be appointed Academy Manager for the Newman Lewes FC Girls Football Academy.

This is a great step for the development of women’s football at the club and an exciting opportunity for players who love football to have dedicated training and games to support their development. Having Newman College as our partners — with their superb reputation for excellence — will see the players’ academic and football education flourish.

I’m looking forward to working with the Academy students to help them achieve their potential, and to continuing my work in developing players to play for one of Lewes Ladies’ three teams.”

Jacquie Agnew, Lewes FC Director of Ladies Football & Development said; “I am delighted that we have someone of John’s calibre heading up the new Girls Academy. The girls will receive excellent coaching combined with first class education.

We want the Newman Lewes FC Girls Football Academy to become established as one of the best in the country for its productivity and care of young players. John will provide the right platforms whereby players will be given the opportunity to perform at their best whilst enjoying their football.”

Students will begin their pre-season with an informal get-together in late June at Lewes FC, and will begin their Academy education at Newman College in September.
