Youth is the word of the day today with news that youngsters Jordan Badger, Nathan Stroomberg and Leon Dramis have been retained by the club for the forthcoming Ryman League South season.
Jordan, despite his young age, has played 47 games for the Rooks, having broken into the first team under Garry Wilson and Danny Bloor in the 2014/15 season. He spent a period out on loan at Peacehaven & Telscombe last season but returned to play a vital role in our fight against relegation, coming in for the injured Alex Malins in the last few weeks of the season. His last-gasp equaliser at Kingstonian in April gave us a deserved point although it wasn’t enough to avoid the drop.
Nathan Stroomberg won’t forget his first season with the Rooks first team, coming on against Leatherhead in the opening game after an injury to Dan Hutchins to make his debut. The young keeper is part of the Lewes Academy and played for the Academy, Ryman Under 18s, DS sides and as well as the three first team appearances last season.
Leon Dramis is another example of the fine coaching and development the club delivers as he was included in the first team squad for the game away at Kingstonian.
“I have been very impressed with the way the club is developing our young players” commented manager Darren Freeman on announcing the latest players to commit to next season’s campaign, “The club owes a huge debt of thanks to the likes of Jay, Alex, Martin and Steve Eke for their focus on bringing players through. The fact we often fielded sides last season that held their own with over half the team under the age of 21 is magnificent and I am very excited to have Jordan, Nathan and Leon in the squad for next season”
One player that won’t be returning to the Pan next season is Leon Redwood. Leon understandably wants to be playing at the highest possible level and has decided to try and pursue that through a new club. Leon leaves us on excellent terms after a good season with us and we wish him all the very best for the future.
More signings will be announced in the next few days.
