Players’ and Manager’s Player of the Year, Alex Malins, has agreed terms with Darren to remain at the Dripping Pan for next season. The popular centre-back had a storming season for the Rooks last term, making 28 appearances for the first team and scoring twice in the Sussex Senior Cup win at Hailsham Town, formig a very solid partnership with Stacey Freeman.
Another excellent piece of news is that Charlie Coppola will be part of the first team squad next season. Charlie, who started the season for the Under-18s and progressed through the DS into the First team at the end of last season, capped off a fine year which included international recognition with a trial at Premier League champions Leicester City. He will add more attacking flair to a side that will also include youngsters James Hammond, Ronnie Conlon and Alex Laing plus the new signings Josh Jones and Jamie Brotherton.
Commenting on the latest news, Darren was very pleased to have got such important players to commit: “No one who saw our final dozen games of the season can argue that Alex Malins doesn’t give his all for the team. He is a very mature player, composed and not afraid to put his body on the line for the team. The fact the rest of the squad felt he was their player of the season says huge amounts.
“Sam Gore is another player we have tracked for a while and we are very pleased to get him back at the club. He will work well with the left-sided midfielder, a position that Charlie Coppola filled towards the back end of the season. What’s not to like about Charlie? He has such an incredible talent for someone so young and we will balance the potential he has with a sensible amount of playing time next season so that we get the best out of him, and he feels that he is constantly developing as a player.”
More signings will be announced in the next few days.
