Players start to commit to the cause for next season

26023335793_09bde37032_zThe Supporters Player of the Year and Lewes legend, Steve Brinkhurst, has put pen to paper and signed on for our 2016/17 Ryman League South campaign just days after the season has ended.  With 149 appearances in the famous red and black shirt, Brinky was on fine form in the second half of last season although he was diasspointed not to add to his 12 Lewes goals.

Also committing to next season along side the marauding full-back is goalkeeper Chris Winterton.  Back at the club for a second-spell last season, Winny’s form between the sticks gave us all hope that we could avoid the relegation fight.  Chris has made 82 appearances for the Rooks sandwiched either side of his spells at Whitehawk, under Darren and Bognor Regis Town.

As a reminder, Alex Laing, James Hammond and Ronnie Conlon already signed on earlier in 2016 for a further year, proof once again that the club will continue to invest in our young players.

Darren Freeman happily announced the first re-signings of the close season last night – “Brinky and Winny were important players to us last season, helping plug the leaks that had cost us dear earlier in the season.  Alongside Stacey, Alex Malins and Leon the defensive team they helped us gain 25 points in the 20 games they were together.  It is great for the club and the fans that they have agreed to stay for next season.”

More player signings will be announced in the next few days.
