Heather Hat-trick sees Lewes Hit Rovers For Six

Sian Heather scored a superb hat-trick as Lewes ran riot at Forest Green, writes Ash Head. Following their successful visit to Plymouth and an outstanding performance against high-flying Charlton, the Rookettes arrived at Slimbridge hungry for points.

Rovers, fighting for FA WPL survival, started well, forcing some fine defensive work from Carter and West with Dolbear making some good interceptions and Palmer forced to clear off the line.

Lewes responded, Lane and Larkin linking well. On 16 minutes they combined to set up Paige Walder for the opening goal. Rovers fought back, the next twenty minutes played out in midfield as both sides looked to get on top. Five minutes before the break Lewes doubled their lead, Sian Heather breaking away on the counter attack before rounding Macey to slot home. HT 0-2

Shortly after the restart Kellie Larkin capped an excellent performance, lashing home past Macey on the run. 0-3. Heather added to her tally, meeting a Katie McIntyre corner on the full to bury the ball from 12 yards. 0-4.

Rovers fought back bravely, Paige Stewart forcing Lauren Dolbear into a brilliant save, tipping onto the cross-bar at full stretch. Lewes were lethal on the counter-attack. Larkin fed Lane who crossed early for the rampant Heather to head home from close range for 0-5.

Rovers brought Townsend on for Okey, Lewes Lock for Heather and Louis-Joseph for Larkin, the French midfielder creating a great chance for McIntyre within a minute. With Smith on for Palmer Ellie Lock took a great pass from Louis-Joseph before firing home from the edge of the box to make it six for the visitors. FT 0-6

Lewes have played some excellent football in recent weeks. This match saw them convert a dominant display into an emphatic win, climbing above West Ham in the table (with three games in hand) and looking forward to their next fixture, away at Spurs next Sunday. It should be a cracker.
