Lewes FC’s new 3G open for business…

The Rookery RED3G daytime1

They think it’s all over.

It is now.

The Rookery 3G is open for bookings, right now.

2015-06-18 22.07.06This is a facility for the whole Lewes district to use. Situated adjacent to Lewes’ home ground The Dripping Pan, two minutes walk from Lewes Station, The Rookery is there for everyone. It’s been purpose-built to accommodate football (obviously), be that adult 11-a-side all the way through to kids’ 5-a-side. But thanks to a layer of IRB-approved shock pads, The Rookery is also great for adult rugby practice and youth rugby games (yes, we’ve got rugby posts available too). In addition, we are partnering with Sussex County Cricket Club and local clubs to offer youth cricket training – more details to follow.

We expect demand to be very high so if you are interested in how to book, please contact us at 3G@LewesFC.com. There will be an easy online booking system too which will launch shortly

And if you’re interested in entering a team in our Rookery Sixes League, send us an email too. We think there will only be room for somewhere between 8 and 12 teams so contact us soon if you want to find out more. One of the Leagues is for ‘SuperVets’ (40+).

What Boots Can I And Can’t I Wear?

3G boots guide

Trainers can flatten the artificial grass over time. Metal studs can rip the surface. Blades can get caught and injure you.

All footwear must be clean before going on to the 3G pitch – boot brushes are placed next to every pitch gate.

Come On You All-Weather Rooks!

Crabb nips back home

Nathan CrabbHot on the heels of Monday’s squad update we can today reveal the return of a fans’ favourite and the club’s top scorer over the previous three seasons. Nathan Crabb needs no introduction to Rooks’ supporters and his direct attacking play, tireless running, pace and eye for goal will again be on display at the Dripping Pan.

The middle Crabb brother initially burst into the Lewes side in the February of 2012 and finished his debut season with 8 goals in 13 matches, with the Rooks narrowly missing out on a play-off place. While playing the majority of games on the right side of the Lewes attack, Crabb still weighed in with 32 goals in 102 starts and no one will forgot his all-important late brace at Cray Wanderers in April 2013, which effectively preserved our place in the Ryman Premier Division.

The Lewes’ player of the season in 2012/13 exited the club just six months ago with a move to Three Bridges but is delighted to be back. “It was definitely right for me to move at the time as I wasn’t playing much and I needed to get minutes under my belt, and although I was slightly hampered by an injury at Three Bridges it was great to get back on the pitch and scoring 3 goals in 4 starts was pleasing. I never really wanted to leave the Dripping Pan though and I can’t wait to be back playing in front of the Lewes crowd. They’re brilliant fans and hopefully I can reward them! Having the new training facilities at the club is also a big draw for me”.

In a minor change to our pre-season campaign, we will now be playing Whitehawk on Friday 24th July, 7.45pm kick off instead of the originally advertised Saturday 25th July.

Artists United 2015

Son Of PanArtists United, the annual exhibition/sale of works by local artists, is back for its sixth year.

The show takes place at the Foundry on North Street in Lewes between Friday 26th and Sunday 28th June.

Opening times are 10am each day until 5pm. Entry is free.

There is a Private View on Thursday 25th June, 6-9pm, and if you’d like to come, please email artists@lewesfc.com

Artists United is an annual art exhibition created by Lewes Community Football Club.

Viva Lewes logo

It is designed to bring together the best established artists and emerging talent under one roof. This year, most of the organising has been done by Viva Lewes so HUGE thanks to them.

It’s a real show of two halves.

And when you buy something, 45% of the sale price goes to support Lewes FC, the town’s not-for-profit, co-operatively owned community football club. 55% goes to the artist.

And there’s also a Lewes FC Club Shop open so it’s easy to buy football shirts, scarves, mugs or one of our Tom Paine revolutionary t-shirts.

Though some artists choose a football theme, it’s certainly not obligatory and most do not. Some others choose a Lewes townscape as their theme, but subjects painted/sculpted cover a wide range of concepts.

Artists United - 6

With nearly 300 paintings, photographs and sculptures on show, there’s bound to be something for everyone’s taste.

Come On You Artists!

Squad Update

As Steve Brown continues to build his squad for next season’s Ryman Premier campaign, we can confirm that a number of players from last season’s squad have again committed themselves to the club. They include Rikki Banks, Jordan Badger, Henry Muggeridge, George Brown, Josh Marshall, James Fraser, Ronnie Conlon and Elliott Romain.

Assistant Manager Jay Lovett also returns to the Dripping Pan in a playing capacity along with a new face, left back Ronayne Marsh-Brown who featured for Wingate & Finchley and Met Police last season.

Leaving the club are Luke Blewden and Nicky Wheeler (both Tonbridge Angels), Sam Cole and Ollie Rowe (both Hastings United), Gary Elphick (Worthing player joint-manager), Matt Crabb (retired), Sam Crabb and Calum Willock and we wish them all well for the future and thank them for their efforts in red and black.

Talks continue with both other members of last season’s squad as well as numerous new signings and further announcements will be made as and when they sign on the dotted line.

A further friendly fixture has also confirmed against a Crystal Palace XI at the Dripping Pan on Saturday 1st August, 3pm kick off.

Walsh is new U18s boss

Alex Walsh has been appointed as the club’s new Ryman U18s manager ahead of the 2015/16 season.

Following an extensive recruitment process over the past month, Alex was the outstanding candidate to succeed Dave Amiet who stepped down last month due to a change in work commitments. Alex is a UEFA B and FA Youth Module 3 qualified coach, and currently holds a number of roles at Brighton and Hove Albion/Albion in the Community as well as managing Shoreham U18s in the Sussex County Youth League last season.

Club Secretary Kevin Brook commented: “We had an excellent response since the job became available and had a number of high calibre applicants, but Alex was the standout candidate. His coaching background and his attitude and commitment to developing young players fits perfectly with what we’re trying to achieve at the club across all our teams”.

Trials for the Ryman U18s side will be announced very soon. If you were born between 1st September 1996 and 1st September 2000 and would be interested in trialling please contact Kevin Brook at clubsecretary@lewesfc.com
