Lewes suffered further disappointment on the road with a demoralising 1-0 defeat at East Thurrock United. REPORT  East Thurrock v Lewes 23 2 13 pen

A controversial penalty in the twelfth minute proved enough to separate the sides on a bitterly cold afternoon in Essex.

Keiron Thorp took out L’Hereux Menga on the edge of the area with the referee’s decision to point to the spot causing consternation amongst the Lewes players who were adamant it was outside the area.

The referee consulted with his assistant but he only backed up his decision allowing Simoeon Potter to score the game’s solitary goal.

Saturday’s result means that Tuesday night’s visit of Carshalton Athletic now becomes the most important game of the season up to now, with both sides desperate to clamber to safety. Kick off is 7.45pm and attendance for Lewes fans is essential.
