Any hopes of silverware for Lewes this season were ended after a Senior Cup defeat by Eastbourne United Association. REPORT
A young Rooks side was embarrassed after only three minutes when Liam Baitup put the visitors ahead and they looked the better side for much of the evening.
Only three players survived from the last starting line-up and it wasn’t until Ben Godfrey, Anthony Thomas and Karl Beckford were introduced that Lewes looked like participating.
By this time, Baitup had added his second but Eastbourne were worthy of their two goal lead as too many Lewes players failed to prove their worth.
Boss Simon Wormull halved the deficit with twenty minutes left but was guilty of missing a great chance to equalise ten minutes later.
Despite some intense late pressure, Lewes were unable to claw one back and instead Eastbourne UA can look forward to a plum draw in the next round.
Lewes have only to wait until Saturday to put the result behind them as they take on East Thurrock United in the Ryman Premier, kick off 3pm.
